Mr Mark Sylvester Rodrigues (M 140)
Oldest known Surviving member
Mr Mark Sylvester Rodrigues (M 140) was born on 18 June 1918,
in Mangalore, to Mr. Jerome Rodrigues and Mrs. Monica
Rodrigues, from Urva Parish. He did his studies in St Aloysius
School and College. He served as a teacher in St. Aloysius
School from the year 1941 to year 1943. He was employed with
the Indian Navy, as a civilian, during the World War II and
continued in the same job till the year 1948.
Later, he joined a metal refining factory in Matunga , Bombay.
Mr. Mark Rodrigues married Mrs. Agnes Mary Pinto, daughter of
Mr. Thomas and Mrs. Monti Mary Pinto on 24 Nov 1947.
They shifted to Calcutta in 1951 and he worked as a manager of
an imort-export firm. The firm closed in 1965. He picked up a
job with a sanitary ware company and worked there till 1969.
With his experience in import and export he started his own import-
export consultancy and operated it till 1990.
Then he retired and took a break. While in Calcutta, Mrs
Rodrigues did journalism for about 15 years. In 1982 she went
to the USA and worked in a college till 1984. She returned to
India in 1984. They went to Dar-E-Salam (Tanzania) in 2002
and returned in Mar 2003. .While in Tanzania his daughter picked
up a job with the US embassy. When Mr&Mrs Rodrigues returned
to India she moved to the USA. Soon after returning from
Tanzania they shifted their base from Calcutta to Secunderabad
and live at the present address. Mrs Agnes Rodrigues passed
away on 26 Jun 2005. They have two sons and three daughters;
all married and settled in the USA. Eldest son Sunil has a software
development firm with branches in the USA and Hyderabad.
Mr Mark Rodrigues lives alone now . His children come and visit
him very frequently. We wish Mr Mark Rodrigues a long healthy
and joyful life.
