New Delhi, Aug 27: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in the 35th edition of his Mann Ki Baat radiobroadcast on Sunday, praised eminent Muslim organization Jamiat Ulema-i-Hind for its cleanliness drive post floods in Gujarat.

“Gujarat saw devastating floods recently. Many people lost their lives. When the waters receded, there was so much filth everywhere. That is when, in Dhanera in the Banaskantha District of Gujarat, volunteers of Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind cleaned twenty-two affected temples and two mosques in a phased manner. They came together and toiled collectively,” said PM Modi.

“The volunteers of Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind set a fine, inspiring example of unity for cleanliness. If this committed effort towards cleanliness become inherent to us, our country will certainly take our nation to greater heights,” he said.

He stressed on cleanliness and called for the countrymen to make the country clean by the coming 2nd Oct when the nation will celebrate Gandhi Jayanti.

“My dear countrymen, I call upon you to begin a campaign, Swachchata Hi Sewa, Cleanliness is Service, at least fifteen-twenty days prior to Gandhi Jayanti on 2nd October – on the lines of the age-old belief, Jal SevaYahiPrabhuSeva, Service to Water is Service to God. Let’s create an environment of cleanliness in the entire country. Whenever and wherever possible, let’s look for the opportunity. But we must all come together,” said the PM.

In his radiobroadcast, the PM strongly condemned violence in the name of faith, religion, politics or caste.

Without mentioning the violent incidents in Haryana following conviction of self-styled saint Gurmeet Ram Rahim in a rape case, the PM said: Non-violence is the supreme religion… No violence in the name of belief, religion, caste or politics will be tolerated. On one has any right to take law into their hand. The Constitution given by Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar has all provisions to ensure justice for all.”

Following the conviction of the rape-accused saint, his followers resorted to violence and at least 36 people were killed, several media persons were attacked and OB vans of TV channels, dozens of cars, government offices and shops were set to fire.

“I assure the countrymen that those taking law into hand – whether they are individual or group – wont’ be tolerated neither by the country nor by this government. Guilty will be punished,” assured the PM.
