NEW DELHI, MAY 21— 1.8 lakh patients treated, poor of them got support worth Rs 60 lakh; 3 new schools were opened and capacity of 7 others was enhanced with construction of 27 new classrooms; 106 drinking water points started; 68 low cost houses were constructed and delivered to the beneficiaries. This is just a snapshot of the vast work done by the Human Welfare Foundation (HWF) under its flagship program ‘Vision 2026’ during the financial year ending March 2020.
‘Vision 2026’ covers diverse areas like education, healthcare, community development, social welfare, orphan care, economic empowerment, women empowerment, medical service, civil rights protection and microfinance.
“Our mission is to serve the poor and deprived sections of the society by providing them the basic amenities like education, healthcare, food and shelter that equip individuals to become an equal partner in the progress of the nation, and by helping the sufferers of calamities to move towards a world free from hunger, ignorance, deprivation, and exploitation,” says HWF, an affiliate of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, in its annual report for ‘Vision 2026’.
At its 11 hospitals and medical centres in different parts of the country, as many as 1,80,386 patients were treated and poor patients among them got aid worth Rs 59,89,801 in the year 2019-20. Moreover, 657 mobile medical camps and 21 medical camps were held where 40,006 and 1965 people got treatment respectively.
As the country is witnessing unprecedented Coronavirus pandemic, HWF came out and extended medical support to government authorities. It gifted 500 PPE kits, 6050 masks and 1150 sanitizers to the District Magistrate of South East Delhi.
On education front, the NGO has been working in several states. In the last financial year, it set up 3 new schools, enhanced capacity of 7 schools with construction of 27 classrooms and 16 more are under construction.
To improve the quality of lives of the poor and those facing social exclusion, HWF is implementing a wide range of community development projects like drinking water project, Nagrik Vikas Kendras, community centres and housing and shelter homes.
Last year, the NGO started 06 drinking water points – 82 submersibles, 13 hand pumps 2 open wells and 6 RO systems.
Besides, 68 low cost houses were constructed and delivered to the beneficiaries.
It has constructed 9 community centres and 12 more are under construction.
For economic empowerment, the NGO has been running vocational training centres and holding skill development counselling and training programs. Besides, it has provided 4 e-rickshaws, 7 wheel carts and monetary assistance to 6 other people.
The year 2019-20 witnessed several natural calamities. HWF has done several relief and rehabilitation work for the victims.
“The year was filled with many natural and man-made disasters in India and across the world. Vision 2026’s team responded by undertaking and supporting, amongst others, Fani Cyclone in Odisha, Floods in Assam, Bihar, Kerala, Karnataka, Punjab, Rajasthan etc., Communal Violence in Delhi and outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic,” said T Arif Ali, General Secretary of HWF.
He further said: “The team behind Vision 2026 has been working to implement a comprehensive plan that includes education, health, basic necessities, livelihood, orphan case, civil rights protection, disaster management, village development, etc.”
