Thousands of Farmers Protest Near Parliament to Press their Demands

New Delhi, July 18: Thousands of farmers from across the country held a protest demonstration near the Parliament House here in Delhi on Tuesday and asked the government to fulfil their demands that include adequate price for crops and waiver of their loans.

Under the banner of All India Kisan Sangharsh Coordination Committee, an umbrella body of several farmer organizations, the farmers, under the leadership of Swaraj India leader Yogendra Yadav held their own ‘Parliament’ session to discuss their issues.

The protest of farmers was part of Kisan Mukti Sansad led by Yadav.

Besides Yadav, other eminent figures here are Hannan Mullla of All India Kisan Sabha and Medha Patkar of Narmada Bachao Andolan.



Their main demands are: Adequate price for crops as per Swaminathan committee recommendations; Evaluation of crops production rate according to Ramesh Chand Committee; and Waiver of farmers’ loan.

Eminent farmer groups participating in today’s demonstration are: All India Kisan Sabha, Akhil Bharatiya Kisan Mazdoor Sabha (UP and Bihar), All India Kisan Khet Mazdoor Sangathan, All Kisan Mahasangh, Punjab Kisan Union, Bharatiya Kisan Union Ekta, Kirti Kisan Union and Kisan Sangharsh Samiti (Madhya Pradesh).

Farmers from Tamil Nadu, who had held month-long sit-in here couple of months back, have also returned and joined the protest demonstration.
