Jaipur, Jan 1: “Daru Nahin Doodh Ke Saath, Karen Nav Varsh Ki Shuruaat” (Not liquor but with milk, let’s start the New Year) is the slogan given by Asthma Care Society of Jaipur. Every year since last 12 years, New Year eve is celebrated here by serving milk to everybody who comes to the main gate of Rajasthan University in Jaipur on the eve of New Year.
“The interest of people is increasing in the healthy thought of drinking milk instead of liquor” says Mr. Dharmveer Kateva, chief organiser of the event.
This year, about 7500 liters of milk were served from 7 pm till 12pm on 31st December. A huge gathering could be seen at the “DaruNahinDoodh…..” pavilion with every one smiling and eager to have a glass of hot milk flavored with elaichi and garnished by fine dry fruits.
With the gaining popularity of the event, now most of the political and social leaders as well as celebrities of the city visit the pavilion in order to show their accord with the message of quitting liquor.
The event witnessed people from various religious communities.
“This is a unique effort to inspire people for abandoning liquor. We extend our full support to the noble cause,” said M. Nazimuddeen, State Secretary Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, Rajasthan.
Other office bearers of Jamaat and Students Islamic Organisation of India, Rajasthan also attended the event and offered their services by serving milk to the visitors.
