I consider myself secular, neither am I right wing or left wing and there are very few people like me, I am actually the minority community: Sonu Nigam

IndiaTomorrow.net,
Mumbai, April 19: Popular singer Sonu Nigam, facing huge criticism for his harsh comments about Azaan for the last two days, got his head shaved by a barber at his residence here this afternoon, day after a cleric in West Bengal reportedly issued an alleged Fatwa against him.

Speaking to the press before the shaving, Nigam said “You have to fight the fanatics, you can’t just hide and comment from Twitter,” while referring to the alleged fatwa.

Monday morning, Nigam had tweeted his anger over early-morning Azaan and termed it as ‘gundagardi.’ He had also expressed his dislike for use of loudspeakers at temples and gurudwaras.

He had tweeted:
“God bless everyone. I’m not a Muslim and I have to be woken up by the Azaan in the morning. When will this forced religiousness end in India.”
“And by the way Mohammed did not have electricity when he made Islam.. Why do I have to have this cacophony after Edison?”

“I don’t believe in any temple or gurudwara using electricity To wake up people who don’t follow the religion. Why then..? Honest? True?”

“Gundagardi hai bus.”

However, after being widely slammed for the harsh comment, his tone was a bit changed today.

“I consider myself secular, neither am I right wing or left wing and there are very few people like me, I am actually the minority community,” Nigam was quoted as saying by NDTV. Appealing to the media and everyone else not to misinterpret what he said about Azaan, Nigam said: “It is a social topic, not a religious one. Azaan and aarti are important, loudspeakers are not.”
