New Delhi, Sep 11: The Supreme Court of India on Monday issued a notice to the Election Commission of India over a petition seeking disqualification of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s legislative membership. The election commission has four weeks to reply.

The petitioner had alleged that Nitish concealed information about a pending criminal case against him while filing his poll affidavit for the Bihar Legislative Council.

According to the petitioner, there was a criminal case against Nitish Kumar in which he was accused of killing a local politician ahead of a Lok Sabha by-election in Barh constituency in 1991. But Nitish did not disclose this information in the election affidavit for Legislative Council poll in later years.
