New Delhi, Feb 16: The Supreme Court of India on Thursday asked internet search engines Google, Yahoo and Microsoft to set up expert body within company to monitor and remove sex-determination ads which are against PNDT Act.

The apex court has also approved a nodal agency by the Centre that will guide the search engines to delete offensive ads and materials, says LiveLaw.in.

“A woman in India dies every two hours because an abortion goes wrong,” said Time in a report in July 2013.

According to IndiaSpend report, more than 10 million women terminate their pregnancies in the privacy of their homes every year in the country.

Foetal sex determination by unethical medical professionals has grown into a ₹1,000 crore industry in India, says UNICEF.

Following the 2011 census, it was estimated that up to 8 million female foetuses had been aborted in the previous decade.
