Standing strongly in defence of Burma's Rohingya Muslims, Pope Francis said they have right to ‘live their faith', and criticised Burmese government for an alleged campaign of persecution.

As per a report in Independent, the Pope said the Rohingyas have been tortured and killed "simply because they want to live their culture and their Muslim faith".

However, Burma has denied carrying out atrocities against the Muslim minority who are around 1.2 million in number in the northern Rakhine state of Burma.
