As per Section 10(f) of DMC Act 1999 & Rules 2000, the Delhi Minorities Commission can “Assess the representation of Minority Communities in the services of the Government, semi-Government bodies and Govt. Undertakings, Municipal Corporation of Delhi, Delhi Deployment Authority, New Delhi Municipal Council, other local authorities and in case of inadequate representation, to recommend remedial measures.”

Delhi Minorities Commission has made some recommendations to the Delhi government to increase the representation of minorities.

“Delhi Minority Commission is mandated to study or assess representation of minorities in various departments of Delhi government like MCD and DDA and recommend the government some measures to increase the representation of minorities in govt jobs,” said Qamar Ahmed, chairman of Delhi Minorities Commission.

“There is very small representation of minorities in almost all departments. We have sent our recommendations to the government, but there is need to work on community level also. There is need to prepare youths for competition not mercy,” said Ahmed.

The state of Delhi was ruled by Congress party for most part of the past two decades. It was in power from 1998 to 2013. It was replaced by Aam Aadmi Party first in 2013 and then with thumping majority in Feb 2015.
