New Delhi, May 20: To protest against the killing of innocents in mob lynching in Jharkhand, scores of people demonstrated outside the Jharkhand Bhawan here on Saturday. The protesters were demanding resignation of Chief Minister Raghubar Das. In a single day on Thursday, at least seven people were lynched in different parts of Jharkhand – the state ruled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party.

“BJP governments and Sangh are regularly trying to replace constitutional system and democracy with mobocracy. We have seen it in the case of Akhlaq and recently in Pahlu Khan,” said JNU Students Union President Mohit K Panday.

“People need to protest to ensure democracy and constitution remain intact in the country,” said Pandey while protesting outside the Jharkhand Bhawan.

Social activist Nadeem Khan said: “The least the government should do is to rein in mobocracy and check criminal elements. Court should also take some suo moto action on such killings. We have gathered here to protest against incidents of mob lynching.”

Shefali, a student from TISS, Mumbai, was also among the protesters.

“Since BJP came to power, I think, the Brahminical system has become operational in full swing,” she said adding that people should get united against it.

Early Thursday, four cattle traders were lynched by villagers in Seraikela-Kharsawa district on suspicion of being child lifter. The victims were identified as Naeem, Khali, Farzu and Raju.

By late evening the same day, three more were lynched on the same suspicion. The victims were identified as Vikas Kumar Verma, Uttam Kumar Verma and Ganesh Kumar Gupta.
