Jaipur, June 20: A delegation of Congress leaders of Pratapgarh district in Rajasthan met the District Magistrate or Collector on Monday and demanded arrest and prosecution of the accused named in the FIR for the killing of social activist Zafar Khan.
Social activist Zafar Khan, 55, was beaten to death allegedly by staffers of municipality in Pratapgarh town Friday morning (16 June) when he objected to them clicking pictures of women defecating in the open.
Despite police lodging named FIR against the assaulters with murder charges soon after the incident, no arrests have been made, nor has the victim family got any compensation from the district authorities or government.
In the FIR lodged by Khan’s elder brother Noor Mohammed, civic employees called Kamal Harijan, Ritesh Harijan, Manish Harijan and municipal commissioner Ashok Jain were made accused.

Led by district Congress minority cell chief Nadeem Ansari, the Congress delegation submitted a memorandum to Collector Neha Giri and made the following demands:
— Immediate arrest of accused and their prosecution with murder charges
— Maximum monetary compensation to Zafar Khan’s family from Chief Minister’s Relief Fund
— Government job to one member of the victim family
Those present in the delegation included Jainu Bhai tailor, Shaukat Bhai Shah, Babban Bahi Meo, Nabi Bhai Neyargar, Amjad Neyargar, Tabrez Mirza and others.
Family members of Khan including his wife and daughter also accompanied the delegation.
Earlier, Rajasthan Congress chief Sachin Pilot also condemned the killing of Zafar Khan. Commenting on a tweet of Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje on 17th June, Pilot said: CM shld first put murderous officials, who killed a citizen in Pratapgarh behind bars, b4 looking for inefficient ones 2 cover up her failures.
On 18th June when the CM described Khan’s killing as demise, Pilot tweeted: “Killed” would have been far too appropriate a word to use for the CM. And going by previous lynching instances, justice is unlikely to prevail.

The CM had said: “The demise of Zafar Khan ji in Pratapgarh is extremely unfortunate. Investigation is on – justice shall prevail.”
