New Delhi, Feb 16: Acting on the orders of Election Commission of India, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation (MHUPA) has removed the photo of Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu from its website. The photo of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also been removed from the website of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna (PMAY). The EC had issued orders in the wake of the ongoing assembly elections in five states.

The Election Commission on 11th February had directed Cabinet Secretary P K Sinha to remove the photographs of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu from the website of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana immediately.

In a letter to the cabinet secretary, the EC said the use of photos of the prime minister and the minister on the website was violative of the model code of conduct.

The EC said it was also in contravention of its earlier directions (issued on dated January 4) asking for withdrawal of all references to ministers, politicians and political parties available on central and state government websites so the party in power does not get advantage of any kind in the assembly elections.
