Though lost, Congress shown its best performance on the seat in 23 years

IndiaTomorrow.net,
Panaji, Aug 29: Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on Monday won the Panaji Assembly seat, sixth time since 1994, but it was not his best performance on the seat, neither in terms of total votes he bagged nor the margin of his victory.

Though with a margin of 4,803 votes, former Defence Minister Parrikar of BJP comfortably won the seat by defeating his nearest rival Congress, but in 2012 the margin of his victory on the same Panaji seat was 6068, his best since 1994 when won the seat first time. Not just that, the total number of votes he got this time (9,862 votes) was also lower than what he got in 2012.

On the other hand, Congress did its best performance on the seat in the last 23 years as it got 5,059 votes – the second time that party crossed the 5,000 vote mark on this seat. However, the party continued its journey on defeat trail.
