NEW DELHI, JANUARY 15— On December 13 and 15, Jamia Millia Islamia witnessed one of the largest police crackdowns in its history, with students being attacked brutally by the Police and paramilitary forces – even those studying in the library were not spared. Mute spectators to the sad events were the large walls of the premier central university, helpless in itself. On completion of one month of the crackdown today, a group of students turned artists are helping them to speak out. As said, a picture can speak thousand times more than words.

From Chandrasekhar Azad of the freedom struggle to Ladeeda Farzana and Aysha Renna, the sheroes of anti-CAA struggle, the walls of Jamia too speak of resistance. “Muslims, Dalits, Adivasis axed, burned, mob lynched, forcefully disappeared, raped, stateless What More?” asks one painting. “May we have courage to speak up before it’s too late,” says another.

Fadil Abdulla, a second year graduation student at the university, told India Tomorrow that though he is not a professional artist he feels it to be his moral responsibility to speak out in all the possible ways he can. “When rulers ignorant of the basic principles of governance reign the country, it’s the least we can do,” he adds.

As protests continue at the epicenter of anti-CAA protests in New Delhi for the consecutive 32nd day, students from different universities converged to the ‘Azad Square’ in front of the campus, on the call of Jamia Coordination Committee commemorating one month of Police crackdown on anti-CAA protests.

Scores of students were wounded in the police lathi-charge and teargas firing — two students had sustained bullet injuries while one lost vision in his left eye due to the impact of the assault.
