One allopathic doctor for 1597 persons in India

New Delhi, Feb 6: The government on Tuesday said that there is one allopathic doctor for 1597 persons in the country.
Responding to a written question in Rajya Sabha on Tuesday, Ashwini Kumar Choubey, Minister of State In The Ministry Of Health and Family Welfare, said that as per the Medical Council of India record, there is a total 10,41,395 allopathic doctors were registered till 30 September last year and assuming 80 percent of their availability, the doctor-population ratio of 1:1597.
He said that according to World Health Organization norms the ratio should be one doctor for a thousand people.
