New Delhi, Sep 22: The NDTV on Friday told the Bombay Stock Exchange or BSE that it has not entered into sale agreement with anyone.

Following a report in The Indian Express Friday that Ajay Singh, co-founder and owner of SpiceJet airline was set to buy majority stake in NDTV, the BSE had sought clarification from the channel.

“NDTV has informed the Stock Exchanges that the promoters of the Company have not entered into any agreement for sale of their stake in the Company to any person. The Company is mindful of its obligations under Clause 30 of the Listing Regulations and shall promptly intimate it of any event required to be disclosed under the said regulations,” said the channel in a post on its website.

The airline has already trashed the acquisition report as “absolutely false and baseless”.
However, despite denials from the two sides, the national English daily has insisted that a source confirmed to it that “details of the deal are being worked out. These may take some time before the formal announcement, said market experts.”

Once OSD of former BJP leader and Cabinet minister Pramod Mahajan, Ajay Singh had coined the most famous slogan of Modi’s 2014 Lok Sabha election campaign – Ab Ki Baar Modi Sarkar.

As soon as the daily flashed the news about NDTV promoters Prannoy Roy and his wife Radhika Roy selling 40% of their stake in the company to SpiceJet owner Ajay Singh, who was part of Narendra Modi’s 2014 poll campaign, there was huge reaction on social media. While many expressed concern and sadness on the sale of NDTV, many others, apparently supporters of BJP and Modi, jumped with joy and flashed their imaginative stories about future of NDTV and its star anchor Ravish Kumar.

Couple of months back, CBI had conducted raids at the NDTV promoters for alleged tax evasion. However, the channel had termed the raids as attack on free press.
