NEW DELHI, MARCH 31— The Indian Muslim leaders have “fully and unconditionally” condemned the terror attack on a Gurudwara in the Afghanistan capital Kabul on March 25 which claimed the lives of 25 Sikhs. In their joint letter to Giani Dr Harpreet Singh, Jathedar Akal Takht Amritsar, and all Sikh brothers and sisters, the Muslim leaders have offered their condolences.

“The criminal murderous attack on a Kabul gurudwara on 25 March, leading to the martyrdom of 25 innocent and blameless Sikh brothers, is a matter of sorrow and grief for us just as it is for our Sikh brothers and sisters. We fully and unconditionally condemn this criminal act,” reads the letter signed by 20 prominent faces of Indian Muslims.

The Muslim leaders said that the attackers called themselves Muslims but “they have nothing to do with Islam or Muslims.”

“We, on behalf of the Muslims of India, offer our condolences to our Sikh brothers and sisters and in particular to Giani Dr Harpreet Singh-ji, Jathedar Akal Takht Amritsar, and to the Sikh leadership and people everywhere. And since the criminal killers call themselves “Muslims,” we wish to inform our Sikh brothers and sisters that these criminals have nothing to do with Islam or Muslims,” they said.

They further said that terror group ISIS has nothing to do with Islam or Muslims.

“We wish to emphasise to our Sikh brothers and sisters that the criminals of the ISIS (Daesh), who criminally attacked the Sikh gurudwara in Kabul, have nothing to do with Islam or Muslims. They, in fact, follow the ideas of the Khawarij rebels who were never accepted by Muslims and who are considered by Muslims as rebels and outlaws working against Islam. They, in terms of their character, plans, words and deeds, serve the enemies of Islam and humanity and commit everything which is against Islamic teachings and Muslims.”

The Muslim leaders said they wished to come to Amritsar to convey their sentiments, but it is not possible due to the lockdown. They said they are with “our Sikh brothers and sisters that we are with you in your times of grief and joy.”

“If conditions were conducive we would ourselves have come to Amritsar to have the honour of meeting you in person and to convey to you our sentiments but since the whole country is going through a lockdown at present, we are conveying our sentiments to you in writing,” reads the condolence letter signed by the following leaders:
