Muslim Family Attacked By A Mob Of Saffron-Clad Men At Aligarh Station

ALIGARH, SEPTEMBER 16—A Muslim family including women, who was travelling from Kannauj to Aligarh, on Sunday were brutally beaten up by a group of saffron-clad men at Aligarh railway station.

One of the victims of the attack Sahim Khan told Indiatomorrow.net that he along with five family members were coming from Kannauj to Aligarh for the treatment of his daughter. When they were deboarding the train, suddenly a group of around 20-25 people, who was wearing saffron cloths, started kicking and boxing them indiscriminately without any reason. Two of them were seriously injured and hospitalized.

“They suddenly came and started thrashing me. I was not able to understand why it was happening. I don’t know anyone and neither have I had any hostility with anyone. I myself was shocked. I never quarrelled with anyone. Even our ancestors have not filed complaint against anyone. This is the first complaint I was filing,” said 47-year-old Khan, who is a resident of a village in Kannauj district. Khan, who is a farmer by profession, said that he was grievously hurt. Khan is currently hospitalized.

His daughter, who is not well for whom they were coming to take medicines, was with them when the incident happened. Khan’s wife, who was wearing burqa, was also with them. The attackers also pushed his wife by pulling her burqa.

“The attackers were rushing from the train engine towards us. From my bogie, I and two burqa-clad women were stepping down. When they saw the burqa, they pushed me. Then, around 10-15 people started kicking and boxing me. And they pushed my nephew, hit and dragged him on to a stone,” said Khan.

He said that as soon as they left from there after hitting us, the police reached. But they did not go after the attackers. The police were seeing them running away from there but did not try to nab them. He also said that people around him did not come to their rescue when they were being hit. They were mute spectators.

They filed a police complaint with the Aligarh railway police station. In the complaint, they also said that their Rs. 2000 and a mobile were also robbed. “Of 20-25 people, 10-12 people attacked me and my friend Taufeeque with the intention of murdering. We can identify the above mentioned people if they came before us. During the attack, my mobile set having phone No.7710964524 and Rs. 2000 were snatched away. The entire incident is recorded in CCTV camera installed at the station. After that, we were taken to JNMC hospital, AMU, for the treatment by GRP Aligarh station. We are under treatment,” says the police complaint filed by Khan.

The incident happened at platform no.7 of Aligarh railway station at around 4 o’clock. They came to Aligarh by weekly Kanpur-Anand Vihar express.

Mukarram, relative of Sahim, said that Taufique Khan has got more serious injury. He got hurt in the head, nose and waist. Blood was oozing out from his mouth. They even hit them with the stone of the railway track.
