New Delhi, April 23— Leaders from top Muslim organizations and Christian groups addressed a joint press conference on Tuesday here at the Constitution Club and strongly condemned the deadly serial blasts that claimed over 320 lives in Sri Lanka on Sunday.

Jamiat Ulama-I-Hind had organized the press conference to express solidarity with the victims of the terror bombings at several churches and hotels in Sri Lanka.

Eminent figures who attended the press conference included Maulana Mahmood Madani, General Secretary, Jamiat Ulama-I-Hind, Nusrat Ali, former Vice President, Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, Navaid Hamid, President, All India Muslim Majlis-e Mushawarat, Dr Zafarul Islam Khan, Chairman, Delhi Minorities Commission, human rights activists Dr. John Dayal and AC Michael.

Addressing the media, Dr. Zafarul Islam Khan said that some forces “don’t want peace in India, Sri Lanka, Burma, Nepal and Pakistan because if there is no peace in the region, their weapons will purchased, people from here will approach them for help and to buy weapons.”

Dr Khan proposed constitution of an International Tribunal in India, Sri Lanka or other country in the region “to probe this heinous crime in which more than 300 people were killed and to expose those behind this crime.”

“Our presence here at this meet is an announcement that we Muslims, Christians and others strongly condemn this heinous crime,” he said.

Nusrat Ali, former Vice President, Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, said: “The attacks are highly condemnable. Those who are doing such acts in the name of religion are actually maligning the image of their religion. They must be more strongly condemned.”

Mushawarat President Navaid Hamid also demanded a high-level enquiry into such incidents in the region. “Those who are behind such heinous game in the region must be brought to fore,” he said.

He also supported the proposal from the organizers to send a multi-faith delegation from India to Sri Lanka to extend solidarity with the people of Sri Lanka and spread the message of humanity.
