Ahmedabad, 03 May 2015: Jashodaben, wife of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, had filed an RTI petition with Mehsana district in November 2014 with her full married name ‘Jashodaben Narendrabhai Modi’. She had sought information about her security and privileges as PM’s spouse. In the February 2015 reply from the district authority, she did not get the desired information, and the reply note addressed her as ‘Shrimati Jashodaben, daughter of Chimanlal Modi.’ Yesterday she filed a fresh RTI petition, now at the State Information Commission in Gandhinagar, seeking the same information. According to Indian Express, Jashodaben has also objected to her being referred to by her maiden name, instead of her married one.

“In her application, she has reasserted her legally married name of Jashodaben Narendrabhai Modi, overturning the RTI reply, given to her by Mehsana Public Information Officer, which simply referred to her as “Shrimati Jashodaben, daughter of Chimanlal Modi”,” said the English daily.

Jashodaben came to the Information Commissioner’s office in the state capital with Sandip Modi, her nephew and counsel, to file the application.

“We have filed an application, challenging the order given to us in February. How can they (authority) change the status of her name — Jashodaben Narendrabhai Modi?” Sandip Modi told The Indian Express.

For the first time in April 2014 while filing his nomination form for the Vadodara Lok Sabha seat, Narendra Modi had entered the name of Jashodaben as his wife. He had left the column blank in the last four Gujarat state assembly elections in 2001, 2002, 2007 and 2012.
