Lynching of Pahlu Khan: Rajasthan Congress demands CBI probe

Jaipur, April 23: The Rajasthan Congress has demanded a probe by CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) into the Alwar mob lynching in which Haryana dairy farmer Pahlu Khan was killed while three other Muslims were wounded.

Rajasthan Congress president and former union minister Sachin Pilot led a delegation of his party leaders to the Raj Bhawan here on Friday. They met Governor Kalyan Singh and gave him a memorandum. In the memorandum, the Congress condemned the assault by cow vigilantes and demanded a probe into it.

“In the Alwar district, a gang of Gau Rakshaks attacked truck drivers on suspicion. Pahlu Khan was killed in the attack while some others were wounded. The way police acted and the state home minister commented encouraged the attackers in a way. Chief Minister has remained silent on it till date. We stress fair probe into the whole incident,” said Pilot.

On 1st April, a gang of self-styled cow vigilantes (Gau Rakshaks) attacked Haryana’s dairy farmer Pehlu Khan and four other Muslim dairy farmers in Alwar district of the state when they were returning after purchasing some cows and calves from a government-run fair in Jaipur. They were brutally beaten up by the mob. They had valid papers from the Municipal authorities of Jaipur. But the attackers didn’t heed. Pahlu Khan, 50, succumbed to injuries in hospital. Azmat, another victim, who got serious injuries in his backbone is not able to walk. He is under treatment now.
