Lok Sabha to discuss incidents of intolerance on Monday

By IndiaTomorrow.net,New Delhi, 29 Nov 2015: The Lok Sabha, the Lower House of Indian Parliament, will discuss the incidents of intolerance – the issue has captured both political and media discourse for the last two months.

The Lok Sabha is scheduled to discuss ‘the situation arising out of incidents of intolerance in the country’ on Monday (Nov 30, 2015). A Motion of Notice given under Rule 193 by P. Karunakaran (CPM) and K.C. Venugopal (Congress) in this regard has been listed in the business of the house for Monday, informed the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs.

In the last two months, more than 100 writers, artists, filmmakers and others have returned their awards or resigned from their posts as mark of protest against the growing intolerance in the country.

Meanwhile, the government has proposed 6 Bills in Lok Sabha, 4 in Rajya Sabha for passing during second week. The bills relate to amending Prevention of Corruption, Electricity, Factories, Whistle Blowers Protection Acts.

Six Bills for consideration and passing in the Lok Sabha are:

1.The Bureau of Indian Standards Bill, 2015;

2.The Carriage by Air (Amendment) Bill, 2015;

3.The Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development (Amendment) Bill, 2015;

4.The National Waterways Bill,2015

5.The Electricity (Amendment) Bill,2014

6.The Factories (Amendment) Bill

Rajya Sabha will resume on Monday the discussion on ‘Commitment to the Constitution as part of the 125th Birth Anniversary Celebrations of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’ that began on Friday last week and remained inconclusive.
