Guwahati, Aug 11: Lok Sabha MP and national president of All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) Badruddin Ajmal has written to Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal to take immediate steps to stop the alleged harassment of non-Mizo people in Mizoram.

In his letter, Ajmal, two-time Lok Sabha Member from Dhubri constituency in Assam, alleged that “Non-Mizo traders specially Bengali speaking (Hindu, Muslim and others) are being harassed in Mizoram.”

“Very recently, on 1st August 2017, members of Young Mizo Association forcefully shut down several shops of Non-Mizo businessmen at Lunglei in Mizoram. The affected traders are mostly from adjoining states of Assam and other states of the country who have been doing their business in Mozoram since long time,” Ajmal wrote in the letter to the Assam CM.

He urged the Assam chief minister to “take matter with Chief Minister of Mizoram for necessary measures for justice to the Non-Mizo traders and tough action against the people involved in injustice against Non-Mizo people living in Mizoram.”

Ajmal’s AIUDF has nine MLAs in Assam and besides Ajmal, his brother Sirajuddin Ajmal is also Lok Sabha MP.

In similar but separate letter to Congress President Sonia Gandhi, perfume baron Ajmal urged her to “pass instructions to Chief Minister of Mizoram for necessary measures for justice to Non-Mizo traders.”

Assam has BJP government while Congress is ruling in Mizoram.
