By IndiaTomorrow.net,Jaipur, 27 Nov 2015: While appreciating the announcement of Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar to ban liquor in his state from April 2016, Rajasthan’s eminent Muslim organization has demanded the Vasundhara Raje government here to ban liquor.

“The announcement of Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar, on the occasion of Prohibition Day, to ban liquor in the state, is a welcome step,” said Er. Khurshid Hussain, Rajasthan state president of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind on Thursday. He said the liquor ban will check crimes in the state and the amount spent on prevention of crimes caused by liquor will now be spent on the development of Bihar.

Er. Hussain appealed to the Rajasthan government to follow Bihar and ban liquor in the state also. “It is an insult for the state or country if it develops through the income from liquor. Any development achieved through risking the health of people is actually destruction,” he said.

Bihar will go dry from April 1, 2016, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar announced on Thursday. He made the announcement — a part of his election pledge — at an official function to mark Prohibition Day. He said the poorest of the poor had been consuming liquor, badly hitting their families and their children’s education.

In Jaipur, civil rights activists have been holding sit-in for the last two months demanding ban on liquor in the state. Former Member of state Legislative Assembly Gurusharan Chhabra had launched the protest but 69-year-old former Janata Party legislator died during the hunger strike on 3rd Nov. The protest, however, has been continued by his family members including son and daughter-in-law. Jamaat-e-Islami has supported the campaign.
