Aligarh, 15 Dec 2014: Justice Markandey Katju, former chairman, Press Council of India and Judge of the Supreme Court today enlightened the law students of Aligarh Muslim University about ‘Constitutional Jurisprudence’ emphasizing the need for the Indian society to change its perspective and attitude towards the deeply embedded casteism and communalism.

Merely enacting laws to curb these menaces won’t eradicate them unless the citizens root them out of their hearts and minds,” said Justice Katju while interacting with students at Faculty of Law of AMU. He was in the university to deliver keynote address at the inaugural of two-day North Zone Vice Chancellors’ Meet being hosted by AMU.

Ms. Anam Rais Khan, Secretary, Law Society, who was the convener of the session extended a warm welcome to Justice Katju on behalf of the Faculty of Law. She said: “It is a great honor to have among us a legal luminary and a Justice who is not only known for his judgments but also for making his profession a service to mankind.”
