Kerala CM assures all support to AMU Malappuram centre

Malappuram, 28 May 2015: Chief Minister of Kerala Oommen Chandy laid the foundation stone for the first academic building of the Malappuram centre of Aligarh Muslim University here on 27th May. Chandy said the state government will give all support to AMU to complete the development works on campus in time. He also asked the AMU authorities to take steps to start the proposed school on the campus as early as possible.

The centre is now functioning in 343 acres area in Chelamala near Perinthalmanna town.

B.A.LL.B, M.B.A and B.Ed classes are at present being held at semi-permanent buildings on the campus.

Three six-storeyed buildings would be constructed as part of the development work. The expected cost of the first phase construction work of permanent building for the centre is around Rs 95 crore.

Director of the Centre Dr. H. Abdul Azeez said that the work of academic block would be completed first and Rs 28 crore has already been sanctioned for this.

Vice Chancellor of AMU Lt. Zameeruddin Shah expressed his pleasure over the functioning of the AMU Malappuram Centre. He said that expectations of the people of Kerala will be fulfilled with this campus. He said that construction of academic block would be completed within a year and new courses would commence in the next academic year.

Kerala state Education Minister P K Abdul Rab inaugurated free Wifi facility on campus. Urban affairs Minister Manjalam Kuzhi Ali inaugurated the biodiversity conversion project on the campus. Lok Sabha MP from Malappuram E. Ahamed inaugurated Telepresence Project and expected that this Centre should be the shining star for the University. He requested the Vice Chancellor to develop it and introduce more courses for the development of the area.
