JNU students detained while protesting over disappearance of Najeeb Ahmed

New Delhi, Oct 21: Scores of students of JNU were on Friday detained about a kilometre from the Parliament House when they were protesting over the mysterious disappearance of post-graduate student Najeeb Ahmed. Najeeb went missing on Saturday (15 Oct), day after an alleged scuffle between him and some members of ABVP, youth body affiliated to the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party.

“Protesters have been brutally beaten and then detained by Delhi police. The police brutally beat up ex JNUSU vice President Shehla Rashid and manhandled other women protesters,” claimed Rama Naga, a former student leader of JNU.

Most of the protesting students have been detained at the Parliament Street police station.

As Najeeb remained traceless on Thursday, sixth day of his mysterious disappearance from his hostel room, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh spoke to Delhi Police Commissioner regarding the incident and instructed him to constitute a special team to look out for him.

His disappearance has forced students to boycott classes and hold protest demonstration at the campus. Today’s was the first protest outside the campus over the issue.
