Jamaat for Judicial Probe in JNU Violence, WPI Demands Amit Shah’s Resignation

While Jamaat-e-Islami Hind has demanded a judicial probe into the JNU violence, Welfare Party of India has sought resignation of Home Minister Amit Shah and confiscation of properties of goons involved in the attack and violence in JNU.

NEW DELHI, JANUARY 6—Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH) president Syed Sadatullah Husaini has demanded a judicial probe into the assault on Jawaharlal Nehru University(JNU) students by masked men on Sunday evening.

In a tweet on Monday, he demanded immediate arrest of the goons involved in the violence at the prestigious university.

“Reign of terror at #JNU is a big alarm for the country. Only fascists can feel threatened by the voice of students”, he further said in his tweet.

WPI Demands Resignation of Home Minister Amit Shah, Confiscation of Properties of Goons

Calling the assault on the JNU as the “last nail in the coffin” of the BJP, Welfare Party of India (WPI) president SQR Ilyas demanded resignation of Home Minister Amit Shah for his failure to check violence at the university.

Ilyas also demanded “confiscation of properties of the perpetrators, erring police officers and ministers responsible to recover the loss of JUN property”. Ilyas said if the properties of those involved in violence in UP can be seized, why not the same yardstick be applied for goons who indulged into violence in JNU.

Ilyas condemned the “role played by JNU vice-chancellor M. Jagdesh Kumar, a political appointee who has introduced many illegal policies in the university through backdoor and who, on Sunday, converted the entire university in a war zone by allowing anti-social elements inside the campus to please his political bosses”.

Sack JNU VC: WPI

WPI demanded that the VC be sacked immediately.

Ilyas also demanded suspension of the police officials who were present on the spot but did not take action against the goons.

WPI for CBI Probe in JNU Episode

Condemning the role of police who remained a mute spectator during violence by the armed goons and also allowed them safe passage, WPI president demanded a thorough probe into the incident by Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

Ilyas demanded compensation to injured students and confiscation of properties of the goons involved in the attack and also the police officials who did not take action against the goons, to recover the loss to the university property.

Hold VC Accountable for Whole JNU Episode: SIO

While demanding resignation of JNU VC’s resignation, Students Islamic Organisation (SIO) of India demanded that the “VC must be held accountable for his culpability in the whole episode in a court of law as well the court of public opinion”.

SIO said that “the last month has seen a democratic uprising of students in campuses across the country, coming out strongly in support of equal citizenship. Our collective rejection of the BJP government’s attempt to alter the fundamental value of equal citizenship has been met with brute force and brazen lies”.

SIO said that “the struggle of India’s students and youth shall continue unabated till all threats to the fundamental value of equal citizenship are eradicated”.

The brutal assault on JNU students has resulted in strong reactions from students and civil society members all over the country, including Indians abroad. Demonstrations in favour of JNU students and against the Central government have been taken out in almost all the states and all major cities and towns.

Demonstrations Across the Country in Support of J NU Students

According to reports reaching here, students and civil society members on Monday held demonstrations and took out rallies in Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Patna, Gaya, Bengaluru, Ranchi, Raipur, Guwahati and Bhopal etc.
Demonstrations were also held at Oxford University in London where students from India condemned the attack on JNU students.

Students Take Out A March in Mumbai

In Mumbai, students and youths took out a candle light march at the Gateway of India on Sunday night itself, after the news of attack on JNU students was circulated through, social media and internet. On Monday also, students took out a march at Gateway of India in Mumbai in support of JNU students, carrying national flags, posters and placards with slogans supporting JNU students and condemning the attack on them.

Violence in JNU A Planned Terror: NCP

Senior NCP leader and Maharashtra Housing Minister Jitendra Avhad, said BJP is trying to destroy democracy in the country. “what happened at JNU was a planned terror. It was good to see that (Prime Minister Narendra) Modi and ( Home Minister Amit) Shah are afraid of JNU students”.

Demonstrations were also organized at IIT, Mumbai and Film and Television Institute India(FTII) at Pune where students strongly condemned the attack on JNU students.

In Kolkata, students from several universities and colleges took out a march from College Square to Raj Bhawan on Monday evening in solidarity with JNU students.

Jamia Students Demonstrate at Delhi Police HQ

A large number of students from Jamia Millia Islamia also demonstrated outside the Delhi Police Headquarters last night, demanding arrest of the masked goons responsible for JNU violence. Showing solidarity with JNU students, AMU students took out a “tiranga yatra” within the university campus on Monday.

Let PM Identify the JNU Goons from Their Clothes: Congress’ Randip Surjewala

Congress spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala, in a tweet said, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi identifies the rioters from the clothes they wear. Let’s see when he identifies the goons of JNU from their clothes. And now, even TV has identified them #JNUattack”.

A total of 35 students, including JNU Students’ Union (JNUSU) president Aishe Ghosh were injured, 20 of them seriously, in the attack on them on Sunday evening. While JNUSU alleged that the goons belonged to ABVP, student wing of RSS, ABVP said that students from leftist groups attacked them. JNUSU has been agitating for the last two months over the issue of hike in hostel and demanding its total rollback.
