Muzaffarpur / New Delhi, 22 Jan 2015: There are 70 houses in the Muslim-dominated Azizpur village in Muzaffarpur district of Bihar – 56 of them belong to Muslims. On 18th Jan, all Muslim houses except one (getting benefit of doubt) were attacked by a mob of over 5000 people from a neighbouring village who were enraged at the murder of a Hindu youth. At least five people from the minority community were killed during the violence.

“The attack was planned as the Police, villagers said, did not entre the village even after several help calls from them. Locals said the police were standing two kilometers away from the village and having tea with local politicians,” said Noorullah Khan, regional head of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind who led a civil fact-finding team to the Azizpur village yesterday (21 Jan 2015).

Villagers told Mr. Khan that rioters first looted the houses and shops and then torched them.

Pictures below tell the story of arson and looting in Azizpur village.
