New Delhi, Oct 21: With each passing day, his family is naturally getting anxious about his status. JNU’s first-year post-graduate student Najeeb Ahmed went missing from his hostel room on Saturday (15 Oct). Full seven days have passed, but he remains traceless.

His mysterious disappearance, day after an alleged scuffle between him and some members of ABVP, a Hindu right students organization, has put the university on standstill. For past five days, students have been boycotting classes and holding protest demonstrations seeking his safe recovery. Najeeb’s family – his mother, sister and cousin brother – is also camping at the campus.

“When something breaks in our house, we throw it out. But when something goes missing, our mind gets tucked in it. That is an ordinary thing that goes missing and we look for it. Najeeb is my brother. He has been missing for last six days and we are unable to find him,” says Sadaf Musharraf, Najeeb’s elder sister while talking to some pressmen near the protest site at JNU on Friday (20 Oct).

“Where is he? In which condition is he? Sometimes we think if he is alive or not. This is a question mark that is always disturbing us. All types of things are coming to our mind. We are afraid to utter that word. Sometimes it seems he is alive but sometimes it seems he is not and we should give up efforts,” she says while trying to control her tears.

“I request to everyone who is watching this video. If you get any information about him, please inform us,” she says.

He preferred JNU over Jamia Millia when got admission at both institutions
Talking about the nature of Najeeb, who had got admission in master’s course of biotechnology this year, she said: He was a different boy – silent, obedient, the most beloved child of his mother. He never argued with his mother on any issue.”

“He comes from a small town called Badaun. He studied at small schools and came up to JNU. He had qualified for Jamia Millia Islamia also. He got admission at Jamia and remained there for 10-15 days. He had given test for JNU also and was praying always to get admission at JNU. He was a talented boy and he got admission at JNU,” says his sister.

“Every sensible person knows that boys who are interested in study do not think or get involved in nonsense. They are focussed on their career. He had come here to make his career,” she said.

Delhi Police sets up SIT on order of Union Home Minister
Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday spoke to Delhi police commissioner about the missing student and instructed him to set up a Special Investigation Team.

The Delhi Police, which had earlier announced a reward of Rs 50,000 for information about the whereabouts of Najeeb, has set up SIT to look for him.

Day after his disappearance, the Delhi Police, acting on the complaint of his mother, had lodged a case of abduction.
