Rae Bareli, Feb 17: “I want to see ‘Made in Rae Bareli’ on products,” says Rahul at Rae Bareli with Priyanka Gnadhi by his side.

Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi addressed a joint rally at Rae Rareli seat for the Congress party’s young candidate Aditi Singh in the jampacked Government college ground today. He aggressively raised both local and national issues to woo voters in the traditional Congress stronghold.

Talking about his own Kisan Yatra campaign he said that he found farmers making three demands everywhere. “Farmers loan waiver, electricity waiver and right price for the produce. Two crore farmers filled our farms only in Uttar Pradesh. What can we say about the situation of famers in the rest of the country.”

He took a jibe on Nanrendra Modi by narrating the proceedings of the meeting. “I asked Modiji, farmers want their loans to be waived off. This is what he had to say,” then Rahul went silent for a few seconds and the crowd began clapping. After a while he said, “This was his answer. Silence. He never spoke a word.”

Like Shahrukh Khan’s ‘Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge’, Modiji also made a movie of many promises called ‘Acche Din’. But after two and half years ago we realized that he turned out be Sholay’s ‘Gabbar’. Earlier Rahul Gandhi had compared the PM with ‘Gabbar’ during poll campaign for the first and second phase.

He also raised the issue of development of Varanasi. “Modiji said that river Ganga is his mother. Modiji, rishtey banane se bante hain, keh dene se nahi hota (one needs to work on relationship, only lip service does not count). Where are his promises of clean Ganga, pure drinking water, solar bulbs, free internet, construction of rings road, and Bhojpuri film city? He could not fulfil his promises made to his ‘mother’?

He said that the PM has snatched the right of employment from the youths and women of Rae Bareli. “We wanted to set up food plant here so that the farmers here could directly sell its produce to the factory. Our proposal was to set up at least 40 potato chips, tomato sauce and peppermint factories. Thousands would have received jobs. But Modi didn’t let it happen.”

He also commented on the PMs ‘Make in India’ campaign by saying that we see ‘Made In China’ on everything. It is because that our PM only listens to 50 corporate families in India and he has helped Vijay Mallya escaped and collectively waived off six lakh crore loan for his corporate friends. He could have helped us with some money in setting up our food plants we could see progress. I want to see ‘Made in Rae Bareli’ on packaged products one day.”

Raising the issue of demonetization, Rahul Gandhi said that traders and common man are hit by note ban when they were looking at better business prospects. “Vote for Samajwadi Party and Congress and we will make banks loans easy for farmers so that we could get to work again.”

Congress party is generally believed to be a winning horse on most of its six assembly seats but a significant number of BSP flags tied to many homes and shops indicated a stiff competition. When Indiatomorrow.net spoke to the residents of Raebareli, it was found that BSP is putting all its weight behind Mohammad Shahbaz Khan from Raebareli seat to make it a strong statement. The Mayawati led party is banking on 21% SC and 13% Muslim combined votes which can make huge impact in the polls. BJP’s Anita Srivastava is also in the fray who is hoping to win by attracting 24% Kayastha votes.
