New Delhi, Feb 9: “The cancer disease is taking the shape of an epidemic in the country but the government does not seem much concerned about it. The government must make allocation in the Union Budget to fight cancer. Rich people spend 40-50 lakhs of rupees abroad and get treatment, from where will the poor spend,” asked Vishambhar Prasad Nishad, Rajya Sabha Member of Samajwadi Party.

Taking part in the debate in Upper House on the Budget 2017-18 on Thursday, Nishad from Uttar Pradesh said there is a need that every state should have hospital like Tata Cancer Hospital of Mumbai.

New cancer cases in the country is estimated to grow by 25% by 2020, according to the cancer registry released by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR). Cancer cases are expected to jump from around 14 lakh in 2016 to over 17.3 lakh by 2020.
