Govt. identifies 109 tribal concentrated districts for education program

New Delhi, 19 July 2014: With an aim to improve the literacy level in tribal areas, the central government has identified 109 tribal concentrated districts in the country. The program will be carried out under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) and 12 percent of the total budget for SSA will be spent in these 109 districts in the year 2014-15.

The SSA was launched to implement Right to Education Act, 2009.

Mansukhbhai Dhanjibhai Vasava, Minister of State for Tribal Affairs, informed the Lok Sabha that the ministry will also focus on education of illiterate adult tribal women under the Saakshar Bharat scheme.

There are other several schemes carried out by central and state governments for better performance of tribals in education.
