New Delhi, July 26: The Union Ministry of Minority Affairs is exploring possibilities for the revival of Haj pilgrimage through ships as an additional option for the Indian Haj pilgrims, Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi informed the Lok Sabha here on Wednesday.

“The Ministry of Minority Affairs is only exploring an idea on the possibilities for the revival of Haj Pilgrimage through ships as an additional option for the Indian Haj Pilgrims, with the Ministry of Shipping. Ministry of Shipping has informed that the ticketing charges will be less than airline charges if vessels with passenger capacity of 1100 are used,” the minister said.

“Other logistic arrangements including assembling of pilgrims and travelling time would also need to be considered,” he said adding that on the advice of the Ministry of Shipping, the Ministry of External Affairs has been consulted in this regard.

The country stopped sending Haj pilgrims through ships 23 years ago.
