MUMBAI, MAY 9— Maharashtra cadre IPS officer Abdur Rahman, who resigned from the job in protest against the passage of Citizenship Amendment Bill day after it was passed by the Parliament in December last year, has expressed deep concern over incidents of hate crimes both by private persons and cops in different parts of the country. He has advised “secular & justice loving lawyers” to form a ‘District Advocate Panel’ in every district to fight against “instances of injustice done against all deprived.”

In a series of tweets on Friday, he mentioned some recent incidents and made the suggestion.

“Incidents of Deoband, Sagarpura (Delhi) Mumbra, Thane indicate police have become communal, beat the largest minority with impunity. Nothing will happen if you post online. Request lawyers to form Advocate Panels in every district, pursue cases till end. Prepare for long term solutions,” said the IPS officer

A video of Deoband, Uttar Pradesh viral on social media shows cops barging into homes of a Muslim neighbourhood and beating people. A bearded, young Muslim was seen being assaulted by a cop and some civilians on the road in Sagarpura area of Delhi. The cop has been suspended.

He called upon people to fight against such incidents under law and constitution and work for all victims.

“I would advise secular & justice loving lawyers to form a “District Advocate Panel” in every district. Get it registered as a trust. Publicize the mandate, contact number etc. Fight for instances of injustice done against all deprived. Fight for all victims,” advised the IPS officer.
