NEW DELHI, MAY 19— The Sharia Council of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind has called upon the Muslim community to avoid crowding the markets in the last days of Ramadan and avoid going here and there on the day of Eid for meeting and greeting people. For Eid Namaz, it has said it should be offered in Eidgahs, grand mosques and mosques depending on the number of people permitted by the government authorities. Five-time prayers and Friday prayers are being offered in mosques with 3-5 people permitted by authorities during the on-going lockdown.

Sharia Council has also demanded the government and authorities to exempt the places of worship under Lockdown 4.0, which came into effect from May 18, and people should be permitted to practice their religious rites by maintaining social distancing.

In the advisory issued by Sharia Council’s President Maulana Syed Jalaluddin Umari and its Secretary Maulana Raziul Islam Nadvi on Monday, the Sharia Council asked people to spend more on more on the poor and engage themselves in prayers at home during the last days of Ramadan.

Since the nationwide lockdown was imposed on March 24, congregations have been banned in mosques and other religious places. Muslims have been offering daily prayers and weekly prayers (Juma prayers) at homes. However, prayers are also being offered in mosques but with 3-5 people permitted by authorities during the on-going lockdown. During Ramadan too, they have followed the directions of the authorities.

General Muslims give much important to last Friday of Ramadan (called Alvida Juma), so the Sharia Council has advised Muslims to offer this Friday prayer also at home, not in mosques, saying that the last Friday of Ramadan is just like other Fridays.

“The last Friday of the month of Ramadan is just like other Fridays. It does not have any special significance. Under the present circumstances, if there are 4 people in the house, then they may offer the Friday prayer or the Zohar (Midday) prayer. If a person is alone, then he should offer the Friday prayer individually,” said Sharia Council in the advisory.

Eid Namaz in Lockdown
Regarding the upcoming Eid Namaz (likely on May 24 or 25), the Sharia Council has said that like five-times prayer and Friday prayer permitted with limited number of people, this Eid Namaz too can be offered there, and rest should offer it at homes.

“Under the present circumstances, Eid ul Fitr prayer should be offered in Eidgahs (where Eid prayer is offered), Jama Masajid (Grand mosques) and the local mosques (depending on how many numbers of people are permitted). If there are 4 people in a house then they can offer 2 Rakat of Eid ul Fitr prayer at home with extra “takbeerat”. The “khutbah” (sermon) may be given after the prayer but it is not compulsory. If 4 people are not there, then 4 Rakat nafil prayer should be offered,” said the Sharia Council.

Avoid Crowding the Markets
Sharia Council has asked people to avoid crowding the markets in view of the Coronavirus.

“As far as possible, please avoid crowding the markets in the last days of Ramadan. On the day of Eid, whatever clothes, old or new are available, can be adorned and one should thank Allah for it,” it said.

“Avoid going here and there on the day of Eid for meeting and greeting people. Please remember the poor, the needy on the day of Eid along with Muslim prisoners and their relatives,” the Council said.
