“This was an open conspiracy. It is shameful that all this was done in the name of Hindus. For Muslims, it is a matter of sadness but it is a shame for Hindus as in their name they (perpetrators) spread lies and played communal politics” – Prof. Apoorvanada Jha

New Delhi, Dec 7: Observing the 25th anniversary of Babri Mosque demolition, many civil rights groups and socio-religious organizations took out a protest march from Mandi House to Jantar Mantar on Wednesday and jointly staged a protest with two demands – speedy justice in this case and punishment to the perpetrators. They said that the mosque demolition was an attack to country’s constitution and all Indians.

Addressing the gathering, president of Lok Raj Sangathan, S Raghvan said, “The demolition of Babri Masjid was not just attack on Muslims but on all Indians. At that time Congress was in power at the Center while the BJP was in the state and hence no action has been taken against the perpetrators.”

Salim Engineer, Secretary General of Jamaat e Islami Hind said, “Today we are observing 25th anniversary of injustice. We have not assembled here for a mosque but for the Constitution that was trampled upon day. On 6th December, the dreams of all constitution makers was crushed”

“All the accused in Babri masjid case are still free and many of them got high Constitutional posts too. We hope despite all attempts to protect themselves they will be punished one day and apex court will do justice,” he said.

While marching people were holding play cards with “Babri Masjid Rebuilding is National Responsibility”, “6th December Black Day”, 6th December Anti- Fascist day” and “Punish The Guilty” written on it.

Accountability and Rule of Law

Questioning over the violation of rule law Prof. Apoorvanada Jha, Delhi University said, “Uttar Pradesh’s then BJP government submitted an affidavit in the Supreme Court that there would be no harm to Babri mosque and Karseva was symbolic only. So, how around two lakh people gathered at the Babri site (Ayodhya) while police were deployed there and; judiciary and administration had all information?”

“Several photo journalists recorded that there were several people whom were being trained with arms and tools. Means all this was allowed intentionally. BJP leaders Uma Bharti, Murli Manohar Joshi and LK Advani were there. All of them committed a sin by spreading venom among Hindus,” averred Prof Jha.

“How they can call themselves Ram ka bhakt? Who will take accountability of the killings aftermath?” Prof. Jha asked.

“This was an open conspiracy. It is shameful that all this was done in the name of Hindus. For Muslims, it is a matter of sadness but it is a shame for Hindus as in their name they (perpetrators) spread lies and played communal politics.”
“Today not only Muslims but every justice loving Indian looking towards apex court with faith. We would not allow India to slip in the hands of those who want to destroy it,” he said.

Besides them Ansar Indori, State president, National Conference on Human Rights , Navaid Hamid, All India Muslim Majlis-e-Mushavarat, Adv. N D Pancholi, member of People’s Union for Civil Liberties, Adv. Shahid Ali, President, United Muslim Front, Dr. Qasim Rasool Ilyas, president, Welfare Party of India and A Sayeed, president of Social democratic party of India also spoke during protest demonstration.

Holding both Congress and BJP responsible for the demolition of Babri Mosque, Dr. Qasim Rasool Ilyas said, “ President’s Rule could have been imposed before demolition but all action was deliberately delayed till a make shift temple was constructed.”

Other groups who participated in joint protest march included Jan Sangharsh Manch Haryana, Purogami Mahila Sangathan, Sikh Forum, Bhagat Singh Ambedkar Students Organisation, Fraternity Movement of India, APCR, Citizens for Democracy, Hind Naujawan Ekta Sabha, Citizens against Hate, INSAF and All India Minorities Christian Front.
