New Delhi, April 23: At least three Muslims were brutally assaulted by a gang of gau rakshaks around midnight near the Kalkaji Metro Station in South Delhi. They were carrying buffaloes. Senior journalist and Political Editor of The Caravan magazine Hartosh Singh Bal was the first eyewitness to the assault and he tweeted about it around 2 AM from the local police station.

“I saw 3 truck drivers transporting buffaloes lying by roadside beaten badly by gau rakshaks near Kalkaji Metro Station,” tweeted Singh at 1:50 AM from the local police station. The incident, he wrote, occurred at 11:50 PM.

He said that the attackers were sporting saffron tilaks on their foreheads and they told him they beat up the Muslims.

He further said the attackers were on the spot when the police reached there but none of them was arrested.

The victims identified as Kamil, Ashu and Rizwan were from Haryana. As they were bleeding, they were admitted at AIIMS trauma centre.

“There were 10 to 15 men who stopped our truck. They started beating us up. We only had buffaloes, no cows,” cattle trader Ashu was quoted as saying by The Quint.

The cattle traders were attacked hours before Delhi goes to vote for Municipal corporations.

Earlier this month, some Muslim dairy farmers from Haryana were assaulted in Alwar district of Rajasthan. One of them, Pahlu Khan, 50, succumbed to injuries.
