CAA Protest: Jamia Students Stopped From Marching Towards Parliament

NEW DELHI, FEBRUARY 10— Hundreds of students of Jamia Millia Islamia and local residents tried to march towards the Parliament House as per their announced program to protest against the CAA-NRC-NPR here on Monday but Delhi police personnel stopped them from proceeding beyond the border of the university.

Reports say some students jumped over the police barricades but they were pushed back by the police. Several students got injured and many others were detained.

Jamia SHO told India Tomorrow there was no lathi-charge on the protesters. They were removed from over the barricades and mayb some of them got injured. The injured students were taken to local hospitals – Holy Family and Al Shifa.

Since morning, there was huge deployment of police personnel and paramilitary forces near the Jamia Millia to stop the march. The police had also erected several layers of barricades.

Some civil groups had given a call for Parliament March from Mandi House and Jamia students wanted to join the march.

Jamia students and local residents have been holding protest demonstration since December 13 against CAA-NRC-NPR. Police had used force on Dec 13 and 15 to check the protest demonstration. On Dec 15, police personnel had even entered the campus and library and assaulted students after the protest demonstration turned violent.
