In last one month in Delhi, BJP has lost three elections

IndiaTomorrow.net,
Gurgaon, Sep 25: When the last election for Gurgaon Municipal Corporation (MCG) was held in 2011, BJP was not in power – neither in the state (Haryana) nor at the centre – and both Narendra Modi and Amit Shah were confined to Gujarat and were not ‘charismatic’ national politicians. In that election, BJP had won 3 out of 35 seats. In the MCG election held yesterday (Sunday), the party could win just 13 seats, far below the simple majority of 18, even though it has strong governments both in the state and centre, and more importantly, the Modi-Shah duo is unquestionably strongest of all politicians of the day.

The results of the Sunday election shows the residents favoured Independent candidates more than the BJP candidates – this could be because they had no better alternative party than BJP.

Independent candidates won 21 out of 35 seats, Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) just 1 seat and BJP bagged 13 seats. The BJP had fielded candidates on all 35 seats. In all, there were 202 candidates in the fray including 147 independent candidates.

No clear mandate for BJP is seen as a setback for the party which has already got three electoral shocks in just one month in Delhi – it lost Assembly by-poll for one seat to Aam Aadmi Party, and lost both JNU and DU students union elections.
