Babri Mosque demolition Anniversary: People demand justice, rule of law

New Delhi, Dec 7: Marking 24thanniversary of Babri Mosque demolition incident happened on 6th December 1992, many civil rights groups and socio-religious organizations jointly marched from Mandi House to Jantar Mantar on Tuesday. They staged protest with two demands – speedy justice in this case and punishment to the perpetrators.

Recalling political developments happened in December 1992 just before and after the demolition of Babri mosque Mohammad Ahmad, Secretary National and Community affairs, Jamaat-e-Islami Hind said, “It happened while BJP government of Uttar Pradesh already submitted an affidavit that nothing will happen if mob go there (Site of Mosque in Ayodhya). And after Babri mosque demolition, P.V Narasimha Rao, the then Prime Minister from Congress said that mosque will be built again. Even after 24 years of incident and many court proceedings nothing happened.”

“The regimes which doesn’t deliver justice doesn’t sustain for a long time.”

“The decision of court should come soon and the perpetrators should be punished, he demanded.

Addressing the public gathering, S. Raghwan, president of Lok Raj Sangathan said, “We all know both Congress and BJP are equally responsible for Babri Mosque demolition, which was done to divide people. Every year we demand to punish all those who were responsible for it. Now, we have lost hope in law.”

“We can only achieve our goal by removing communal people from the system. We will strengthen our unity to run our campaign as attack on one is attack on all,” he stressed.

Relating the anti-Sikh riots(1984) to the incident of Babri mosque demolition, Baljeet Singh, member of United Sikh Forum said, “1992(demolition of Babri Mosque) happened because we maintained a silence after anti-Sikh riots happened in 1984.”


Besides these some other speakers from various groups also expressed their distress over the justice delay in the case.

Terming the long period of twenty four years with no justice in the case distressful, Shahid Ali President, United Muslim Front said, “We have had a constitution still such incident happened. This is a mockery of law that even after Shrikrishna Commission Report came, no perpetrator got sentence.”

“Here at Jantar Mantar you can see they are (members of Shiv Sena and United Hindu Front) are celebrating and openly violating the law in front of police,” he alleged.


At a few distance members of Shiv Sena and United Hindu Front were marking the anniversary of Babri mosque demolition as celebration day.

Phoolka Singh, State President, Jan Sangharsh Manch, Haryana said, “This country is being run through state terrorism rather than any law. We demand that mosque should be built at the same place and perpetrators belong to Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP), Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) be punished.”

President of Citizens for Democracy, N. D. Pancholi said, “This injustice is not just with Muslims, it is with law and country. Whatever happened on 6th Dec 1992, is a blot on Indian democracy.”

Others speakers who spoke on the occasion were Qasim Rasool Ilyas, President, Welfare Party of India; Vishal, Naujawan Bharat Sabha; Adv. Sirajuddin Ahmad, United Muslim front; Prakash Rao, Communist Ghadar Party of India; Laeeq Ahmad, Students Islamic Organization; Mohammad Arif, Popular Front of India; Abdul Rashid Agwan, All India Muslim Majlis-e-Mushawrat and Anwar from Association of Protection of Civil Rights(APCR).

Other Organisations who jointly organized this protest included INSAF, United Sikh mission, CPI(ML), Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI), People’s Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL), All India Federation of Trade Unions (New) and Mazdoor Ekta Committee.
