NEW DELHI, JANUARY 16— Slogans against the controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) were raised at a conference of Muslim clerics called by RSS outfit Muslim Rashtriya Manch in support of the law at the Constitution Club of India here on Thursday. RSS leader Indresh Kumar was present on the stage.

As soon as RSS leader Indresh Kumar went up to the stage and was about to take his chair in the centre, around one dozen people from among the audience stood up and started raising slogans against CAA. They went up to the front of the stage and took out placards from their pockets and shouted slogans, shows a video posted by ANI news agency on Twitter.

“A group of protesters created ruckus at an event of Muslim Rashtriya Manch, by showing banners and raising slogans against #CitizenshipAmendmentAct and NRC. RSS leader Indresh Kumar was also present on the stage,” tweeted ANI.

The protesters raised these slogans: “Down with Enemies of Constitution, Withdraw CAA, We Oppose CA”.

RSS outfit had organized the event called “Rashtriya Ulama Conference” in support of CAA.

On a big banner behind the stage, this was written in Urdu: “Is there any harm to Muslim from CAA? What is CAA? The Rashtriya Ulama Conference has been organized by Muslim Rashtriya Manch.” In Hind on the same banner, however, there were no interrogative sentences but some affirmative sentences in support of CAA. “CAA is a law to give citizenship, it is not to take away or snatch citizenship from anyone. This Rashtriya Ulama Conference is in support of CAA.”

Some Muslim clerics sharing the stage with RSS leader included Kaukab Mujtaba and Suhaib Qasmi.

Even since CAA was passed by the Parliament on December 11, there have been nationwide massive protest demonstrations against the controversial law that seeks to give citizenship to only non-Muslim migrants from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan.
