AMU suspends faculty for facebook post against VC

Aligarh, 23 July 2014: The Aligarh Muslim University on Wednesday suspended an associate professor for a facebook post in ‘inappropriate language’ against the Vice Chancellor Lt. Gen. Zameeruddin Sha.

“The Vice Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University, on the authorization of the Executive Council in its special meeting held on July 22, 2014, has placed Dr. Syed Ali Nadeem Rezavi, Associate Professor, Department of History under suspension with immediate effect, pending enquiry,” said a communication from the university.

“Dr. Rezavi has been suspended in view of a prima facie case of “gross misconduct” on his part and a disciplinary proceeding contemplated against him for posting slanderous comments against the Vice Chancellor in an inappropriate language on a social site, Facebook, few days back. He shall be paid a subsistence allowance during the period of his suspension as per rules of the University,” it further said.

The University has ordered Dr. Rezavi not to leave Aligarh without obtaining a prior permission of the VC.
