Aligarh, 06 Jan 2015: The Aligarh Muslim University is auctioning jewelleries which include a 22 karat gold necklace and a pair of earrings donated by a US-based alumnus and fixed the minimum price at Rs.5 lakhs.

Dr. Afshan Hashmi, a US based AMU alumnus has gifted a beautiful 22-karat gold necklace studded with invaluable real pearls to her alma mater. “The antique jewellery also includes a pair of earrings (Jhumka) and a finger ring,” an AMU official said.

“We have accepted her gift with gratitude and put the set for an open online auction. I recall, in the last Alumni Meet, similar thing happened when we were gifted with two gold bangles, which went for approximately 7.5 lakhs in an open auction. Of course, in the last case, the highest bidder donated the bangles back to the University which are being put in the University Museum,” Vice Chancellor Zameer Uddin Shah (Retd.) said.
