New Delhi, Nov 23: With toll of bank employees and people standing in queues going up each day thanks to demonetisation, bank employees unions are demanding resignation of Reserve Bank of India Governor Urjit Patel’s resignation.

All India Bank Employees Association vice-president Vishwas Utagi on Wednesday said that bank unions are adamant on their demand for RBI Governor’s resignation as they hold him responsible for ineffective handling of the crisis post the demonetisation drive.

“Since two weeks, the bank employees are working from eight in the morning till midnight including weekends. Still, there are truckloads of work to do. There has been absolutely no cooperation from the RBI’s side,” Utagi told ANI.

Three days back, Thomas Frenco, senior vice president, All India Bank Officers’ Confederation, had made the similar demand.

“Why shouldn’t we demand resignation of the RBI governor? Can’t this government find where the black money is? Supreme Court said that fifty two people are in black money holders’ list. Why aren’t you taking action against them,” asked Frenco while speaking at an event on demonetisation in Delhi earlier this week.

“In 1978 similar kind of decision was taken but at that time the situation was not like today. Eleven bankers have died so far (in last 10 days) to arrange money in the banks,” he said.
